The 1745 Library Foundation is a Pennsylvania non-profit charitable corporation organized to advance the current and future work of the State Library of Pennsylvania. We are people who believe passionately in the historic State Library’s importance and who wish to bolster its dual roles: as a provider of library services for citizens and for state government's efficient operations; and, as a steadfast leader for library services across the Commonwealth.
Established in 2023, The 1745 Library Foundation strives to:
Broaden the public’s appreciation and support for the historic State Library of Pennsylvania, which traces back to the pre-Revolutionary War collection of English statutes, maps, and other publications organized by Benjamin Franklin in 1745;
Heighten awareness of the value of the services provided through the State Library of Pennsylvania;
Serve as a not-for-profit resource outside of state government to support the State Library's pursuit of innovation, broader accessibility, and deeper engagement with the full range of Pennsylvania's rich history and our diverse economy and culture;
Provide financial, administrative, or management partnership support for special projects through the State Library of Pennsylvania and on behalf of stronger library services statewide; and,
Engage in fundraising activities in support of the State Library of Pennsylvania's resources, professionals, programs, and services.
The work of the foundation is underwritten by generous support from individuals and organizations that share a passion for the State Library of Pennsylvania and who wish to see it flourish in the future. The 1745 Library Foundation is recognized by the IRS as a tax-exempt nonprofit organization described under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. As such, the amount of your charitable contribution is tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.
